Lincoln

Here I am Rune
Distance 8.6 miles
Total 1436 Locks 72 Tunnels
Running total mileage 2011.4 miles

Today’s run took us from Torksey to the outskirts of Lincoln, just by the main A46 road, it’s unlikely to be a quiet night tonight! (particularly as we have the railway on the other side of the canal).

It was a real pleasure to be on a deep, weed free canal and able to travel at a good cruising speed of about 4mph so it didn’t take too long to reach here. We stopped off at Burton Waters Marina to take on a full load of fuel rather than the nominal amount we got from West Stockwith yesterday since at Burton Waters it was possible to make a proper use declaration rather than the fixed declaration that is made at West Stockwith. The problem with the fixed declaration is that we don’t use fuel in the ration of 60/40 propulsion to domestic, since we remain at locations for some time we often run the engine to recharge the batteries and heat the water so our declaration tends to be either 20/80 or 10/90 domestic to propulsion. Using the fixed declaration makes a tankful cost about £25 more.

I have checked the tides for our continuation down the Trent and they are not really at a very convenient time on Monday when I was considering moving on, about 5.30pm so we may stay in Lincoln for a few extra days to let the morning tide get to a reasonable time. I’ll be watching the weather though since if it continues raining we need to press on regardless. As it happens the forecast is now for falling temperatures rather than rain!
