Newark (2)

Here I am Rune
Distance 0.9 miles
Total 1439 Locks 72 Tunnels
Running total mileage 2046.3 miles

And after yesterday’s long run, today was just a short run into the centre of Newark and I have to say the plans worked wonderfully. We left out overnight mooring at about 10.00am and pottered through Newark Nether Lock to the moorings outside of Newark waterways office which had been my number 1 choice of mooring. Upon arrival here there was space for at least two full length narrowboats available and it is 48 mooring so we can stay until Monday morning. Since it is a pontoon mooring unlike all of the others in Newark we don’t have to be concerned at the river levels rising or falling since they are floating pontoons that we are moored to. There are also proper mooring cleats on the pontoons which are a whole lot better than bollards since, in a town centre on a Saturday night there is always the possibility of some muppet thinking it would be funny to release a boat from its mooring from a bollard whereas it’s a lot more difficult to do so from either a mooring ring or mooring cleat.

As an added bonus it is the Newark Blues Festival this weekend at the castle so we have been enjoying the free music that has been blasted at (fortunately I quite like Blues).

Tomorrow we’ll be staying where we are to enjoy more music and have another look around Newark, it is quite a pleasant ‘quirky’ sort of town.
