Hazleford Lock

Here I am Rune
Distance 8.6 miles
Total 1440 Locks 72 Tunnels
Running total mileage 2054.9 miles

A bit of a dull, drizzly day but when it eased a bit we made our way down from the Newark mooring to the mooring below Hazleford Lock. Also discovered that on this non-tidal section of river it is still necessary to be mindful of the depth of water since back at Farndon I moved across to allow a cruiser to overtake only to find myself bumping along the bottom (foolishly taking the inside curve on a corner).

After we stopped for the day at Hazleford Lock the rain then came in for the day so it’s probably just as well we didn’t press on. You can tell that summer is over, particularly since one of the boats coming in the opposite direction had already lit his fire! (and this is during the day, we didn’t do that in the depths of winter).

The plan for tomorrow is to go as far as Stoke Lock which will then give us an easy day’s travel into Nottingham on Wednesday.
