Cheswardine

Here I am Rune

Distance 7.2 miles

Total 5320 Locks  432 Tunnels

Running total mileage 8004.6 miles

Travelled a bit further than either needed to or intended to today, but once we got to the top of Tyrley Locks, all of the moorings were taken so we have pressed onto Cheswardine which is the next available mooring once you’ve got through Woodseaves Cutting. Passed another boat from Hawne Basin in the cutting, he is heading to Chester but intending to be back in the basin by 6th June for the Open Day.

Since we are further on than anticipated (by about 2 miles or 40 minutes) we should reach Norbury Junction comfortably tomorrow.

Adderley

We’ve now come through the Audlem flight of locks and moored for the night just short of the Adderley Flight. It would seem that they have improved the by-weir on the lock above the Shroppie Fly pub where I got caught the first time we came through here. There is now a tree trunk diverting the flow from the by-weir as you enter the lock and another tree trunk fixed to the opposite side to stop you getting trapped, all worked out OK for me this time.

We are still comfortably on schedule to get to Autherley Junction by the weekend and back to Birmingham by the start of next week.

Audlem

Distance 5.5 miles

Well I achieved all that I wanted in Nantwich, a visit to the chandlery to get a new seal for the diesel tank, a new air release valve for the Thetford Cassette and some more paint. Weekend shopping duly collected and a dip in their brine pool, with a quick trip on the bus to Chester thrown in for free.

We have cruised on to the outskirts of Audlem although when I told a guy I was talking to in Nantwich that we were going on to Audlem he replied,”Oh, are you going to the festival?” unfortunately I hadn’t realised that there was a festival on, which means that most of the moorings are going to be taken. We’ve stopped about half a mile short of Audlem so that we have a mooring for the night without having to go through all of the locks, it’ll just mean we’ll have a bit more work to do tomorrow.

Rather annoyingly there is almost no internet here so I’ll try and update the blog but cannot link to the Google map location because there isn’t enough bandwith to download any Google maps. I’m not even sure that this blog will update with the limited stuff I’ve put on it.
