We’ve now had the  guy aboard to assess the servicing that will be necessary for our stove and hopefully we can get it done sometime in the next month or so. This isn’t the ideal time of year to be doing such work since the fire is a bit of a necessity as the temperature falls but hopefully once it’s done it will last for a few more years yet. An actual replacement for the stove would be in the realms of about £1500 so anything cheaper than this will be a bonus.

I’m not sure how long we will stay here at Barbridge, whether we move on tomorrow or Wednesday, depends on how we feel.

We had to move today since we were in need of a refill for the water tank so we have wandered a short way back along the Shropshire Union to Hurleston for the night. Tomorrow we will probably carry on to Barbridge to try to meet up with the guy for servicing our fire. Since the forecast over the next few days suggests it is going to get a bit colder, it looks like we might well be in need of it.

Nantwich

Today’s trip was to check out the mooring availability in Nantwich prior to returning there one we are into the winter period when the 48 hour moorings become 14 day moorings. It looks as though it might be a bit tight getting in as there are already quite a lot of boats moored here. The current plan is to stay until Sunday then turn around, top up with water and empty the elsans then head back towards Barbridge until about Wednesday before returning in the hope of finding a mooring that we can stay on for about 14 days.

The trip from Barbridge to Nantwich was quite pleasant although there was a bit of distracting mist when we first set off. Travelling into the sunlight meant that the mist pretty much blocked our visibility although boats coming in the opposite direction tried to help by putting their tunnel lights on, the trouble was that by the time that you could see their tunnel lights you could already see their boat!

The one bonus of mooring at Nantwich  was that we got pretty much a front row seat at their local ‘Spooktacular’ Firework display, which was quite impressive.

Once again only a short trip today up to the Winding hole by Bunbury Lock and then back to Barbridge visitor moorings. Since we stopped for the day quite early I took advantage to travel into Nantwich to visit the plumbing supplies shop and have now fixed all of the outstanding plumbing jobs (repaired both the bathroom tap and the kitchen tap. The next project is to get the fire sorted out but the guy to do that is apparently off until next week so we may have to wait for a while.
