High Offley

Here I am Rune
Distance 4.9 miles
Total 734 Locks 26 Tunnels
Running total mileage 1101.1miles

A rather windy trip down from Cheswardine down here to High Offley. Probably the most impressive feature on the trip was the Shebdon Embankment which, when you are on the top of it you realise is a simply huge piece of Civil Engineering for the time it was built (1835). Since the view from it (even allowing for the trees that line it) is quite impressive it must be visible from quite a long way away.

Things are getting a bit quieter on the canal since we only saw a single boat moving today, and at the time the weather was OK but a bit windy. Think we need to press on to somewhere about Gnossal either tomorrow or Saturday to put us within range of a supermarket for the weekend shopping, where we are at the moment is an absolute desert for shops!
