Audlem

Here I am Rune
Distance 2.9 miles
Total 711 Locks 26 Tunnels
Running total mileage 1086.8 miles

Another short run brings us to the pleasant village of Audlem. We could possibly have carried on but there is a series of 12 locks beyond where we have moored and it would be a case of once you’ve started you’ll need to finish them. Rain was forecast for the afternoon so we ‘chickened’ out. We may also ‘chicken’ out tomorrow if the weather sticks to the forecast of rain again.

We had a wander around Audlem, it is surprising how a small village such as this can support three pubs. The canal shop was worth a visit, he seem to have cornered the market in books by L.T.C Rolt with numerous copies of his book ‘Narrow Boat’ that I happen to be reading at this time.

Not sure how long we’ll remain here, depends upon the weather.

The view from the boat (sorry about the dog bin!)
Just one further point of interest, have just checked on Google Earth Street Level for the Kennet and Avon Canal at Lock 57, and I have achieved fame at last!! If anyone has a look at that location (it is between Cofton Pumping Station and Wootton Rivers) the boat going into the lock is me.
