Anglesey Basin

We’ve stayed for the day at Anglesey Wharf and taken the opportunity to take a walk around Chasewater Reservoir, a distance of about 3 miles. There were a few information boards around the lake which made interesting reading. I thought that the reservoir would be principally to supply drinking water but according to the board its primary purpose was actually to supply the water for the Birmingham Canal Network as this is a sort of summit so the water from here goes all the way through Birmingham. In the photo of RUNE we are moored at the point where the water comes in from the reservoir, hope that it never comes in at a rush! The other surprise was that they were still mining coal here until 2000.

Tomorrow we’ll probably start to head down into Birmingham so will look to getting to either Northywood Bridge or Longwood Junction.

A type of water-skiing on the reservoir
