Autherley Junction

Here I am Rune
Distance 7.9 miles
Total 736 Locks 27 Tunnels
Running total mileage 1119.2 miles

For the first time since, probably September, we are now off the Shropshire Union canal and onto Staffordshire and Worcestershire canal. The final few miles of the Shroppie were as pleasant as the rest of it although Autherley Junction is a little bit of a disappointment. There were one or two places as we passed under the bridges where the famous ‘Shroppie Shelf’ was visible and perhaps just a bit too close for comfort! The cunning plan now is to have a couple of months exploring the Birmingham Canal Network (BCN).

Where I described Autherley Junction as a bit of a disappointment, that was perhaps partly down to my misreading the map as I thought that the moorings were just before the stop lock before we entered the Staffs and Worcs canal but we have had to leave the Shroppie before we could find the moorings. It is probably just as well really since, where I thought the moorings were is alongside the local sewage works! By the time we moored here (about 4.20pm) it was too dark to get a photo of the Junction itself, will rectify that tomorrow and attach it onto this post.
