Rishton

Here I am Rune
Distance 10.9 miles
Total 1230 Locks 68 Tunnels
Running total mileage 1731.1 miles

We managed marginally further today than I originally planned, I was aiming to get to the 48hur moorings at Rishton Bridge but have actually gone another half a mile to New Barn Bridge (Bridge 109). This puts us about a mile and a half from the Leeds Liverpool Canal halfway stone near bridge 112. Must ensure I get a photo of it when passing. Ideally I would have liked to have reached bridge 115 where there are supposed to be moorings with an excellent view however by the time we had reached here we had a load of crud around the propeller which was slowing us down, by the time I’d cleared that it didn’t seem worth the effort to press on any further, particularly since the view here is very pleasant looking up towards the Pennines. There is also a view of about a dozen wind turbines but, despite all of the political hot air being pumped out about them, they despoil the view far less that the electricity pylons which are ubiquitous throughout the country. Given that the turbines are painted grey, they almost disappear against a grey sky. Build more of them I say (if only because it seems to be mainly Tory MP's that they annoy!).

Tomorrow another extended trip with the hope of getting to Reedley which is the other side of Burnley  from here. There are no locks but 3 swing bridges to slow us down. The day after should see us on the summit of the canal.
