Kildwick

Here I am Rune
Distance 5.1 miles
Total 1252 Locks 70 Tunnels
Running total mileage 1771.9 miles

Not exactly a challenging day’s cruising but since we got off to a bit of a late start (midday) we haven’t done too bad. We did all the necessary servicing sort of things, new gas bottle, emptied rubbish and cassette and filled the water tank so we are fairly well sorted for the weekend.

This area seems to be the swing bridge capital of the country since, although it has been a fairly short day we have already done seven swing bridges and we’ve got another 4 to do before Silsden, which is only about a mile and a half away. There isn’t much I can do to help the crew on the swing bridges either, unlike the locks where I can shut gates and open paddles, everything for a swing bridge is on the non-towpath side of the canal (historically to keep it out of the way of the horses) so all I can do is drop her off and leave her to work it.

Not sure how far we’ll get tomorrow, whether to go through the Bingley Locks or not, we’ll have to see.
