For the record, this is a view of RUNE moored in Salthouse Dock prior to setting off to complete the Leeds Liverpool Canal (photographed before a load of boats arrived this afternoon in anticipation of the Water Festival that starts on Saturday).
RUNE in Salthouse Dock

Our last full day in Liverpool was spent travelling across on the Mersey Ferry to Seacombe and then down to Woodside Birkenhead where we got off to have a look at the U534 German submarine which is on display adjacent to the ferry pier. I didn’t think that I suffered from Claustrophobia but looking at the inside of that Submarine I think living in there for any period of time would give me claustrophobia.
This is what a depth charge does to a submarine!

At last the wind seems to have abated a bit and this afternoon it was even pleasantly sunny whilst we walked up to the Metropolitan Cathedral, the main purpose of which was to look at the Lutyens designed crypt, unfortunately that closed about 30 minutes before we got there so had to content ourselves with just a look around the cathedral itself.
The Metropolitan Cathedral (look at that sky!!)

The movement we made today was just up to the Liverpool marina at the far end of the docks to empty our Elsan Cassettes. In warm sunshine and little wind it was a pleasant little trip although a bit disconcerting when reversing into the marina since you are surrounded by GRP sailing boats that do not appreciate any form of contact with an 18 Tonne steel narrowboat. At least it now means that when we set off tomorrow we don’t need to stop until we have found our mooring for the night, previously we would have had to stop at the Litherland sanitary station. So tomorrow we set off to traverse the Pennine to get to South Yorkshire Navigations. We are now booked into our marina when we get there as well.
