We stayed the allowed 2 days at the moorings at Lime Kiln pub and moved on today. Sadly the weather forecast seemed to have changed overnight to heavy rain today, and the forecast didn’t let us down, it certainly rained heavily. It wasn’t the sort of day we would normally choose to move, but since we had to move on from the mooring, and I’d already got wet, we may as well continue.

As we’ve moved out of Hinckley we seem to have lost some depth in the canal, if you move out of the central channel you quickly run aground. Only ‘incident’ of any note was a boat that had broken free from it’s moorings that we had to stop and re-moor. Whilst doing so a hire boat made an attempt at passing, but then found out why I had stopped to move the boat rather than trying to push through, he ran aground. Have to say that the boat adrift hadn’t been particularly well moored, if I were leaving a boat (it was unoccupied) I certainly wouldn’t rely on ‘nappy pins’ to hold it.

Looking at the map we seem to be about 8 miles or so from the terminus of the canal beyond Snarestone, we’ll see how far we get tomorrow.
