Despite an hour or so’s delay by Bridge 20a on the Coventry Canal, we have made it to the Lime Kilns Bridge on the Ashby Canal, our intended destination for the day.The delay was because the Police had shut the canal having found a body in it by Bridge 20a. They had only just recovered him when we arrived since they were still carrying out CPR on him but sadly, as is the case with most CPR they were unable to save him. Talking to one of the Policemen at the scene he stated that no-one had seen him going into the water, so that is going to limit his chances. Talking the couple on the boat in front who were also being held up, they said that they had passed a boat further up the canal and the helm had told them he had seen some people on the footbridge pointing to something in the water there, we both had much the same thought, as in,”So why didn’t you stop?”. I don’t know about others but I’m acutely aware of anything in the water since I generally don’t want to run into it, whatever it is, but if I saw what looked like a body, stopping the boat would be my immediate reaction.

We will remain at this mooring until after we’ve done the weekend shop tomorrow, whether we move on tomorrow or Saturday depends upon how we feel.
