So we did all of the domesticky stuff before leaving Saxilby (water up, etc.) stopped off at Burton Waters Marina to top up with diesel ready to head off into the wilds of Boston, and headed to Lincoln in search of a mooring. I thought, when I went past on my earlier trip into Lincoln on the bus, that there was an abundance of moorings, what I didn’t realise was that most of them are for mooring permit holders. When we actually got here, the Visitor Moorings were a bit limited, not helped by large gaps between the unoccupied boats on the moorings. After 2 attempts, one into a gap clearly too small for our 60 footer and a second try into a gap that was exactly 60 foot, we finally found the last mooring on the Visitor Section which matched the length of our boat perfectly.

 

On arrival I set to work on a full service of the boat, oil and filter change, air filter change, fuel filter change, etc so hopefully she will sound comfortable as we set off into the wilds. We should be here until Saturday when we head off onto one of the last sections of inland waterways we have never been on.

Decided to stay an extra day at Torksey due to poor weather forecast so have travelled on to Saxilby today. Being on the Foss Dyke things are getting a bit straight to say the least, but at least there is reasonable depth of water so progress is better than on some shallow canals, it’s just that when the navigation stretches into the distance in a dead straight line, it seems to take forever to get anywhere.

The current plan is to stay here until Thursday and then try to find a mooring in Lincoln. I popped into Lincoln this afternoon on the bus and there appeared to be spaces on the Visitor Moorings, whether they will still be there on Thursday is a different question.

After the 16.5 miles of yesterday, today we’ve just done the 0.5 miles from the tidal moorings at Torksey to the visitor moorings on the Lincoln side. Bit of an early rise to get through the lock on the tide but now we are here there is no restriction on when we can go. Did the usual domestic stuff once we got through the lock so don’t need to bother with such things now until we get to Lincoln.

 

We’ll stay here for today (and tonight) and head off towards Saxilby and Lincoln tomorrow.
