Napton

Here I am Rune
Distance 6.7 miles
Total 3884 Locks  241 Tunnels
Running total mileage 5708 miles

Today’s trip was much as expected, an easy passage along the Oxford Canal summit pound past the earthworks of the HS2, and the guy who has put his narrow boat in the middle of a field, through to the locks, starting at Marston Dole. With little wind and travelling northbound the lock is no problem at all, it was only going the other way and into a strong wind that problems arise.

It was quite busy coming down the Napton flight with one single handed boat in front of us and about three behind us. It all went reasonably well thought, there were even volunteer lockkeepers on the bottom lock. I suspect that they put them there on a Saturday as it is the first lock that hirers coming out from Napton marina will encounter so a bit of assistance obviously helps them.

Tomorrow, probably on to Braunston.
