Knowle

Here I am Rune
Distance 8.6 miles
Total 1001 Locks 57 Tunnels
Running total mileage 1375.7 miles

Well we’ve now crossed the 1000th lock milestone since we have cleared the Knowle flight giving us a tally of 1001 locks so far, at least if keeps one fit! Today was an absolutely ideal day for narrow-boating; sunny, little wind and becoming quite warm, what more could you ask for? The Grand Union canal along this stretch is generally quite wide and deep so progress was also pretty good (5 locks and 8.6 miles so 13.6 ‘lock miles’).

Tomorrow may be a little more challenging since we are starting to re-enter Birmingham again and I recall that the guy who sells coal in Gas Street Basin says he hates the next section between Catherine de Barnes and Camp Hill locks, particularly when the kids are off school. We’ll have to see what it’s like as we have passed through other areas that people have warned us about, it just depends on how your luck is running I suppose, hoping that luck is with us tomorrow.
