With a forecast of wind and rain today we decided it was a
good opportunity for another ‘standstill’ day today. The guy with the Bolinder
engine however bravely continued his travels into a 25mph wind! Had a
discussion with him before he left and all that the guy in the Black Country
Museum had related also referred to his boat. No reverse, a pig to start in the
cold, habit of stalling if it gets too cold, no weed hatch to clear the
propeller,etc .etc. I wouldn’t mind steering one of these Classic boat just to
be able to say that I’ve done so but I think that getting around in one all day
and every day would be a bit trying. Even the owner himself described every day’s
travelling in it as being done ‘with trepidation’.
With the strong wind of today we have managed to break the
washing line so we’ll be having a delayed start tomorrow to give me the
opportunity to get to Argos to get a replacement.
