South Kilworth

Here I am Rune
Distance 9.2 miles
Total 495 Locks 12 Tunnels
Running total mileage 683.6 miles

Further on towards Norton Junction we are now moored for the night pretty much in the middle of nowhere, the nearest villages seem to be either South Kilworth or Welford, which means that we are back out of Leicestershire into Northamptonshire. The weather today has been quite good, it must be ideal conditions for gliding because the location where we were moored for lunch was near an airfield from which they were towing gliders up, and it was something like being moored near a major airport as they were going up at the rate of about 1 every couple of minutes for over the hour that we were moored.

The only real feature we passed today was through Husbands Bosworth tunnel  (1171 yards). A recent innovation of mine that helped enormously was a small solar powered garden light that I got from Wilkinsons for £1. The problem with going through tunnels is that you are never entirely sure where you bows are pointing, until you start to drift towards either of the walls, so you tend to spend a lot of your time over-correcting. By fitting this little light at the front and lining it up with the tunnel exit it is possible to steer a fairly straight course through the tunnel without drifting towards the sides. A useful adaptation for very little expense. Tomorrow onwards towards Crick and Watford locks.
