Snarestone

Here I am Rune
Distance 6.9 miles
Total 512 Locks 16 Tunnels
Running total mileage 756.2 miles

So we have now completed the last few miles to the terminus of the Ashby Canal (photo). It included a short but rather quirky tunnel, the Snarestone Tunnel, which is both crooked and has a roof that gets progressively lower as you pass along it. This gives a rather bizarre illusion of going downhill in the tunnel. We are told by a member of the Ashby Canal Association that restoration of the canal is going along well and it is possible to see their work from where we are moored, perhaps we will come back up here in the future and be able to travel the full length, we’ll have to see. Tomorrow we set off back towards Marston Junction and the Coventry Canal.
