Site of Battle of Bosworth

Here I am Rune
Distance 4.0 miles
Total 512 Locks 15 Tunnels
Running total mileage 747.2 miles

Not exactly a strenuous day taking us only 4 miles up to the battlefield moorings near to the scene of the Battle of Bosworth. Should correct (or at least clarify) yesterday’s blog when I referred to it as the scene of a Civil War battle, it was in fact a scene of a Wars of the Roses Civil war not the Cromwellian civil war. Interesting to wander the battleground and learn from the visitor centre how it was won and lost. I think I’d have to take the view it was rather lost by Richard by his ill-considered attempt to attack and kill Henry by cutting across the battlefield thereby leaving himself exposed, and leading to his death. It is an interesting site to visit and looking at the set-up it does seem curious how Richard managed to lose it, he had the larger army, he was positioned on the ridge above his enemy, he seemed to have everything going for him, unfortunately he couldn’t trust his allies. Tomorrow on to Market Bosworth to take a trip on the Battlefield line and collect some weekend groceries.
