Foxton Locks (top)

Here I am Rune
Distance 1.7 miles
Total 495 Locks 11 Tunnels
Running total mileage 674.4 miles

With our shiny blacked bottom (ooh missus!) we are now back travelling and have once again gone through the Foxton Locks, albeit a bit slower today as it was rather busy and we had to wait for about an hour and a half before we could begin our ascent. Once you are actually in the flight it takes about an hour to get through, which isn’t bad for a flight of 10 locks. So it can be seen from the above that over two and a half hours passed just getting through Foxton. Once at the top of the flight we then moored alongside the horse and boy statue (photo) and I took the opportunity to carry out some servicing with a needed oil change for the engine, a check of the fuel line agglomerator to see if there was any water in the diesel (there wasn’t) and finally a recharge of the stern gland greaser (no, that’s not a euphemism for anything!!). I have to say that I’m fascinated where all this grease actually goes, it doesn’t leak into the boat through the stern gland and whilst the boat was up on the trestle I had a check of the propeller and it doesn’t come out that end either but wherever it goes we have now used about three cans of grease since we set out a year ago. Tomorrow hopefully onward towards Welford and Crick.
