Stretham

Here I am Rune

Distance 11.6 miles

Total 4117 Locks  264 Tunnels

Running total mileage 6,208.1 miles

We didn’t get off the anticipated early start since we needed to fill the water tank and then when I checked the fuel, that needed topping up as well, so it was about 11.30am before we eventually got under way. We seemed to make quite good progress to start with, we were soon through Hermitage Lock and off along the Old West River at about 3.5mph, which seemed quicker than when we came up. We started to slow down in the middle bit between willingham flat bridge and twentypence marina as we lost water depth. Interestingly we went past a moored hire boat at the GOBA mooring before Aldreth High Bridge and they managed to catch us up just before the Laz Otter marina, so I don’t think they were being held back to 2.5mph as we were.

The rain started literally 5 minutes before we got the Hundred Acre mooring, but fortunately the biblical rains that followed gave me chance to get the boat roughly moored up before they came down. I can remember the days when it just used to ‘rain’ rather than these days when it is often monsoon rains.

Tomorrow hopefully we’ll start off down the River Cam towards Cambridge.
