After a seriously early rise (5.25am) we managed the trip through to Cambridge, arriving at the bridge they are working on at 7.30am so with half an hour to spare to get through. First stop in Cambridge was the sanitary station where there was at least a mooring. After doing the necessaries we then set off to find a mooring, at the Fort St George moorings on Midsummer Common. Getting in against the wind was as tricky as it usually is in a strong wind and we drove 4 pins and used an embedded scaffold pole to ensure that the boat didn’t drift free in the wind.

Spent today (Saturday) exploring Cambridge but unfortunately a lot of the stuff was still shut, making viewing the Bridge or Sighs difficult. We move on again tomorrow heading back in the general direction of Ely, not sure just how far we’ll get, but whilst checking the mooring lines tonight, a hire boat came onto the moorings and said he had come from Ely in 3 hours, and was going back there tomorrow having only hired the boat for the weekend, so it can be done quite quickly.

The one novelty in Cambridge was being able to go for a swim in the Jesus Green Lido, apparently the longest pool in the UK (100 yards), so for the first time this year I managed to get my mile swim in, odd that it only takes 18 lengths of the pool!
