Beeston

Here I am Rune
Distance 2.5 miles
Total 1116 Locks 59 Tunnels
Running total mileage 1494.5miles

After a week back in Torquay to carry out one or two bits of maintenance, vote in the election and to visit the recently arrived Granddaughter we are now back onto the boat and back on the move again, albeit only a couple of miles out of Tattenhall marina. The original plan was to take advantage of the fact that we hadn’t been using the boat for a week which should have given the gas locker in the bows time to dry out to enable me to put a coat of paint on it. It seems that it was a pretty wet week up here in Cheshire (as well as back in Torbay) since there is now rainwater in the gas locker so I still can’t paint it, and it is once again raining today. I’ll have to try again with painting it when we’ve had a bit of a dry spell.

Dropping the hire car we had used back to Chester I took the opportunity to have a walk along the canal through the city, and I was amazed just how quiet in boating terms it is. Chester Basin by the Telford Warehouse has two boats moored on the visitor moorings and the visitor moorings at the top of the town were completely empty. The only boat I saw on the move was a hotel boat ‘Away4awhile’ going through the staircase locks. I suppose we are in the quiet spell between Easter and Whit before the full season kicks off.

Tomorrow it will just be a case of travelling as far as we feel like, heading north and the next significant event will be the Anderton Boat lift which we will just have to travel on!
