Middlewich

Here I am Rune
Distance 6.6 miles
Total 1125 Locks 59 Tunnels
Running total mileage 1510 miles

A steady potter along the Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire has brought us as far as Middlewich itself. I have to say that this branch of the Shroppie is very pleasant scenery with some really good moorings. The first task as we set off today was to reverse back to Aqueduct Marina to take on some fuel before, and that was a bit of a palaver in itself. Where we were moored for the night was quite sheltered but as I reversed back towards the marina the wind picked up quite nicely. Reversing a narrow boat is a bit hit and miss at the best of times, but in a strong wind id does become a bit ‘challenging’. We eventually managed to get into the marina and refuelled anyway and then set off along the Middlewich Branch. Tomorrow, for the first time since we left Fazeley Junction back on 11th April we will be travelling on ‘new’ canal, that is canal that we haven’t been on before. We should reach Anderton lift bridge either tomorrow or Tuesday (I will get some photos) and the original plan was to book a passage. Having looked on the CRT website it appears that if you book a passage you have to pay an ‘administration fee’, however if you turn up on the day, on spec, and take the next available slot it is free, think we might just turn up and see what happens!
