Here I am Rune
Distance 6 miles
Total 1134 Locks 59 Tunnels
Running total mileage 1553.6 miles
Having had a quiet few days on the Weaver Navigation I would
have to say that this morning we saw the biggest flotilla of boats passing by
that we have seen anywhere. It seems as though it was the Acton Bridge Cruising
club day out to Anderton Country park. Whilst preparing to move move off this
morning 12 of these boats came past, all heading towards Anderton. My first
thought was @I hope they aren’t all going to Northwich or else there will be no
moorings left’ but my concern was misplaced as they all stopped at the Anderton
Country Park adjacent to the boat lift. This at least meant that when we got to
Northwich to do the weekend shopping there were still spaces to moor.
A fairly easy day of just 6 miles and a couple of locks, at
river speed that equates to only a couple of hours cruising. The weather has
held up quite well although once again the wind has picked up. Fortunately it
isn’t as cold as it has been. It is a bit of a luxury to have proper
lock-keepers at all the locks, all we need to do is keep the boat in position
and they do all the rest. At Dutton and Saltersford Locks all that entailed was
pushing a few buttons but at Hunt’s Lock and Vale Royal that involves having to
manually open the sluices and open and shut the gates.
We should reach Winsford
early tomorrow and then set off back towards the boat lift, probably now going
up on Monday.
