It is amazing how much better everything seems when the sun
is shining! We have had an excellent day’s cruise today taking us down from the
Trent and Mersey canal, via the Anderton Boat lift onto the River Weaver. The
strong winds of yesterday have abated and it was a pleasant sunny day, what
being on the water should all be about.
The day’s plans didn’t start too well as we attended the
booking office of the boat lift to book our passage, to be told by the girl on
the desk that there was currently a problem with the boat lift but they were working
to fix it. Eventually we went down on it at 12.50pm along with and old Canal
Club boat also having a couple of days on the River Weaver. Not knowing much
about this river I didn’t know what to expect but, so far, it has been a really
pleasant experience. A lot of it has been a bit like being on the Thames
although we did pass a derelict industrial site today that you wouldn’t find on
the Thames. There is very little flow on the river to slow us down (or speed us
up if we were travelling with it) but there is a good depth of water which
enables the boat to go a bit quicker. I think that the likelihood is that we’ll
be here until Saturday or more likely Sunday.
I also got confirmation that our booking to go into
Liverpool Docks has been processed so we need to be at Aintree Racecourse for
9am on 29th May to be escorted through into the docks, everyone we
have spoken to says how brilliant Liverpool Docks are so now we shall be able
to find out.
Tomorrow it will be on towards the pleasures of Runcorn.

A short video just before the start of the descent, unfortunately the full descent video was too long for this site.
