After yesterday’s sunny day, today we were back to overcast and a very cold, strong wind, is it ever going to warm up? Stopped for lunch and had to put the heating on because we had become so cold standing at the back of the boat. On the plus side we did get through quite a good mileage today, the difference being on a river with a decent depth of water makes. Checked with the satnav and we were doing about 4 knots on the river (4.5 mph) at the same engine revs (1600rpm) as we do on the canal and only go at less than 3mph. The Weaver navigation is a very pleasant piece of waterway, it only gets particularly industrial on the last section as you go into Runcorn where there is the Chemical Factory (once ICI but now owned by AkzoNobel). Having checked the internet, it was here that they make Chlorine and Sodium Hydroxide (Caustic Soda).

 Now moored by Sutton Swing Bridge and tomorrow we head up towards the Winsford end of the navigation.
