Chester

Here I am Rune
Distance 0 miles
Total 693 Locks 26 Tunnels
Running total mileage 1056.0 miles

After yesterday’s rain we’ve had a better day’s weather today (or at least we did up until the moment I took up a paintbrush!). The first task for today was to try to get hold of some more coke for the stove. A few cold nights have depleted our fuel supply and you can guarantee that if you run out of coke the weather would take a serious turn for the worse. Unfortunately the nearest supplier is a place called Dandy’s topsoil which is on the Sealand Road out of Chester. This seemed to be reasonably near to where we are moored but I forgot to check the distance on the map, turns out it was nearly 3 miles away. This is fine on the outward journey to collect the coke but it is a bit of a slog on the return journey pulling 40kg of coke, keeps me fit I suppose!

The next task was a bit more repainting since the weather was good. Started out in bright sunlight but by the time I’d prepared the surface for painting it had clouded over. Pressed on with the task and about 5 minutes after I had finished painting the heavens opened. It was fairly fast drying paint but will have to wait until tomorrow when it has fully dried to see if it has caused any damage to paint surface.

We’ll have to move again tomorrow since we’ll have been on these moorings for the 48 hour limit, at the moment the plan will be to move about ¼ mile back along the canal towards Ellesmere Port where there are moorings on which we can stay for up to 14 days and decide our next move from there.
