Maesbury

Here I am Rune
Distance 6.8 miles
Total 644 Locks 21 Tunnels
Running total mileage 948.5miles

Made it to the end of the Montgomery Canal, winded (turned the boat around!) and we are now heading back towards the Llangollen Canal. This has been an attractive canal although very narrow, overgrown in places and a bit shallow. The fact that they limit numbers on here means that it is fairly quiet so there is no rush to do anything. The only real hiccup we had today was at Aston Middle Lock where I entered the lock with a large piece of wood. As we drained the lock, for some reason the piece of wood jammed against the side of the lock and the side of the boat and RUNE began to tilt rather worryingly. We shut all paddles and let some water back into the lock and the problem was resolved, I then took the piece of wood out of the canal as we left the lock. I’m still not entirely sure exactly what happened as the boat began to tilt towards the side where the wood was whereas I would have expected it to away from the jammed wood, but anyway no disaster caused.

Tomorrow back to Weston Branch in preparation to go back through the Frankton locks on Friday. I have also checked the diesel level and think that we will need to put some in either when we get to Chirk or when we get to Trevor on our way to Llangollen.
