Ellesmere

Here I am Rune
Distance 6 miles
Total 636 Locks 21 Tunnels
Running total mileage 937.6miles

Ellesmere, the target for today was easily reached, in fact we were here early enough for me to do a bit of touch up painting on the boat. One more tunnel has increased our tally, and an interesting tunnel it was. It is one way and the notice boards advise to ensure that the tunnel is empty before entry however since the tunnel entrance is on a bend it is impossible to actually see into the tunnel before you are virtually in it, fortunately there was nothing coming the other way. A couple of miles before we moored at Ellesmere there was one cracking mooring that I shall try to remember for the return journey, it is a picturesque scene alongside Blake Mere, well worth an overnight stop.

We shall have to contact Canal and River Trust in the morning to try to book a passage through Frankton Locks. Entry to the Montgomery Canal is a bit restricted, they apparently limit numbers to just 12 boats up an 12 boats down each day, with the locks only open between noon and 2pm so we shall have to see if we are lucky.
