Frankton

Here I am Rune
Distance 6.1 miles
Total 648 Locks 21 Tunnels
Running total mileage 954.6miles

As planned, back to the Weston Arm where we can have a bit of a late start tomorrow since we are only half a mile from Frankton Locks and we don’t need to get there until noon. I think that the target tomorrow will be to try to get through Frankton Locks and New Marton Locks back on the Llangollen Canal which will set us up to get to Chirk on Saturday morning. We are going to need to get some fuel then which may cause a bit of a problem since Saturday is one of the changeover days for the hire boats and they will be spending Saturday morning receiving the boats back from hirers and preparing them for new hirers, hopefully between times they will be able to fit in selling us some diesel.
The trip back up the Montgomery was pleasant and uneventful. Stopped off at Perry Aqueduct and Graham Palmer Lock to collect a couple of Geocaches, if you don’t know about these you will need to look up Geocaching.com to find out but basically it’s like ‘Letterboxing’ on Dartmoor but is worldwide. It does get a bit silly on one section of the Llangollen Canal since you aren’t really supposed to site the caches very close to one another but someone has placed 185 of them along about 10 miles of the canal towpath. To give some idea, I have been doing this for about 10 years and I have found about 200 caches, if I could be bothered to find all of the Llangollen caches it would almost double my collection! I may try to find a few but 185? Not a chance.

As you can see it can get a bit narrow.......

.....and overgrown to try to push a narrow boat through
