Another fine day for travelling which was just as well because the Hatton Flight in bad weather iosn’t much fun. Curiously for a Saturday, once again not many boats going in our direction so we found ourselves having to do the flight solo. Not too much of a problem, but it is always easier if you can team up with another boat to halve the workload. Despite this we were still able to get from the bottom to the top in about three and a half hours, so about 10 minutes per lock, and bearing in mind most were set against us, that seems quite respectable. The only place we were slowed a bit was a boat coming down, in the lock above us, failed to close the top gate paddle before opening the bottom gate paddles so our lock then had a torrent of water cascading over the top gates, which I had to wait for it to subside before taking our boat into the lock or we’d have got swamped. Ironically, having criticised their error, we then went and made exactly the same error on the top lock, but fortunately corrected it quite swiftly.
Tomorrow the intention will be to clear the Lapworth Flight which puts us back into the same pound in which Hawne Basin lies, it is a big pound though!
