Braunston

Here I am Rune

Distance 2.9 miles

Total 4764 Locks  315 Tunnels

Running total mileage 7,095.1 miles

Again, quite a short hop into Braunston, although 6 locks and a tunnel to navigate. There were quite a number of boats coming past us this morning at our overnight mooring, so we thought we’d better get under way before all of the moorings at Braunston filled up.

Despite setting off about 10 minutes after the last boat passed us, we still managed to catch it up in the tunnel so I had a few sessions of cruising in neutral to allow him to get ahead again. It gave me the opportunity travelling so slowly so admire just how kinky the tunnel actually is. I was fully aware of the major kink 400 metres in from the eastern portal, but as you look at the tunnel whilst passing, most of it has wavy walls.

After the tunnel there was the six locks down into Braunston, the only real issue we had was that the weather couldn’t make up it’s mind, one minute the sun was out, the next it was pouring with rain.

On arrival in Braunston I thought we might have left it too late as all of the available moorings before the main road bridge had gone, as luck would have it though, there was a 60’ gap directly opposite ‘The Boathouse’ into which our boat would just fit. It enables me to use their broadband as well!

We’ll be here until Saturday.
