Blakemere

Here I am Rune

Distance 5.6 mile

Total 4510 Locks  282 Tunnels

Running total mileage 6,733.5miles

As planned we headed on towards Ellesmere, stopping about a mile short of the Ellesmere Branch Arm at a pleasant location alongside Blakesmere. Due to the tree cover it is a bit shaded, but the view of the mere more than makes up for it.

Probably got the closest to being rammed today than I have in a while. At Bettisfield Bridge we were waiting for boats to finish watering up to get on the water mooring when a small hire boat started to approach aiming at our bow. The helm seemed to be looking down doing something and when I realised he wasn’t going to change direction, I put our boat in hard astern to get out of his way, just as well as he then drove into the canal bank where we had been waiting. Apparently his was distracted by taking his coat off (multi-tasking I suppose) anyway, no real harm done.

Tomorrow we might try to go down onto the Mongomery Canal depending upon whether we can get a booking.
