As planned, we picked Sister in Law in the city centre then headed out of Leicester down the Mile Straight to Freemen’s Meadow Lock. We stopped off for lunch at the King’s Lock Tearooms, a place I’d recommend as a pit stop. Continued after lunch to drop Sister in Law off at Little Glen Road Bridge, so she had a walk of 500 metres to get back home. A reasonably successful day, except SiL grazed her leg getting up onto the back deck to leave the boat to go to the tearooms.
We were going to head onto Kilby Bridge but decided to call it a day at Double Rail Lock as the mooring seemed OK. In fairness there have been a number of places, including Kings Lock, which seemed as though they’d be fine for overnight mooring so it seems that the reputation of parts of Leicester is becoming historic now.
