We didn’t go as far today as intended, but we are still within a day’s travel of Loughborough so it is of little consequence. The hold up seemed to be getting through Kegworth deep lock which took us an hour and 20 minutes. There was a cruiser going up as we arrived with two narrow boats ahead waiting. It seems that because there is only one ground paddle, people are reluctant to us the gate paddles until the water level has risen above the cill, so filling the lock was a slow process. When we went up we cracked open the gate paddles a short way with no disastrous results, but how people fill locks is their decision, so if it takes time, it takes time.

The mooring for tonight seems OK, but it is however directly under the flight path for East Midlands Airport!

 I would hope to get to Loughborough by tomorrow as long as we don’t take over an hour at each of the three locks on the way!
