Bumble Hole, on the move again!

Here I am Rune
Distance 3miles
Total 817 Locks 40 Tunnels
Running total mileage 1240.9miles

True to our word, today was the day to get back out onto the cut again. Didn’t travel quite as far as the original intention which was to have gone to Park Head but having reached Bumble Hole visitor centre this seems quite a pleasant location with 48 hour moorings so we’ll stop off here until at least tomorrow. The passage through Gorsty Tunnel involved collecting the usual crap around the propeller but on this occasion it wasn’t enough to bring us to a halt and I waited until we were out of the tunnel before stopping and lifting the weed hatch to clear the usual mound of plastic bags. In terms of boat movements it’s been quite a busy day (compared with the past couple of months). Before we left Hawne Basin I was warned that there was a boat coming in so to expect to meet at the tunnel. We passed that boat whilst we were still within the moorings at Hawne so I assumed that the canal would be clear, wrong! Got to Gorsty tunnel and started to line up for the entrance (you can’t see into the tunnel from the helm until the bows are almost inside the tunnel) and then saw the light of a boat coming through the tunnel so had to effect a quick stop. I think that was probably where I picked up a lot of the crap around the propeller since when I put the boat into reverse the stern drifted across into the shallows. Once we got here to Bumble Hole yet another boat came along the canal from the direction of Park Head and finally after we had been moored for a bit the boat that we passed leaving Hawne Basin came along and moored behind us.

Anyway it is good to be on the move again with a change of scenery and a couple more miles under our belt.
