Well, by the time we’d got our act together today we decided
that it was too late to make a run on the locks. Having looked at the pound
below the locks and spoken with some CRT staff I’m reasonably happy that we are
going to have enough depth to get through (famous last words?) but we will need
to get a reasonably early start at this time of year since sundown is now
before 4pm so the cruising time is limited. To get to Tipton which is the
nearest place with any prospect of mooring, is through 9 locks and about 5 ½ miles
along the canal. The actual mooring that
I’d be aiming at is in fact above the top lock at Ryders Green which may
be another ½ mile. We’ll see how we get on.
