Dudley Port/Tividale Quays

Here I am Rune
Distance 0 miles
Total 777 Locks 28 Tunnels
Running total mileage 1161.5 miles

To make up for the extra cruising on Saturday we’ve taken a couple of days off from moving around. Since we are sort of ‘trapped’ in Birmingham we have plenty of time to spare so I took the opportunity of getting the bike out and exploring around the Tipton area. It’s funny how when you become used to the canal network you can get a bit thrown on where roads go! I had a sort of mental map of the area based upon the grid that is the Old Main Line and the New Main Line. They run parallel to each other so theoretically if you ride South from the New Main Line you should hit the Old Main Line but is doesn’t always work out like that, so I got a bit ‘displaced’ in Tipton.

Also went down to have a look at Netherton Tunnel which I went through back in 2004 but can’t say I particularly remembered it, which is surprising since Netherton is unusual in that it has a towpath on each side. We will probably be passing though it sometime this side of Christmas. Not sure how much longer we’ll stay here at Dudley Port and when we do move it will only be as far as the Black Country museum moorings since that is where the nearest sanitary station is.
