Pressing on we are now at Windsor, and if we could have got moored on the meadows, would have woken up to a clear view of Windsor Castle. As the moorings were too shallow for us we had to come back across the river and have now moored alongside Barry Avenue. The cost for the overnight mooring was £8 but since we want to stay here until Monday we’ve paid £16. The reason for the extended stay is to be able to have Sunday lunch in Windsor with my cousin and catch up on some chat.
The day’s cruising was a bit challenging at times principally due to the wind which at one point was strong enough to blow the back door into me as I was steering. We are now off the section of river that was subject of yellow boards and are now on river with no stream warning. Other than the necessary stops at locks, today was a straight through run from Cookham to Windsor and by my calculations this represents about halfway from Reading to Brentford. Since we are well on schedule we can justify an extra day in Windsor sightseeing and socialising.
