We have now made it out onto the mighty River Thames and since we are travelling with the current the progress has been pretty good. It isn’t quite as scary as the River Kennet travelling with the current because the river is so much wider that you have a lot of leeway if anything should go wrong. On the Kennet it was always a bit of a worry that you’d meet someone on one of the many corners and, unable to stop, would run into them. There is plenty of space for everyone on the Thames, and it will get wider as we go. There are still a few yellow warning boards up but they all say ‘Stream Decreasing’ so we should be OK provided that the weather doesn’t deteriorate.

Currently moored up at Henley-on-Thames, notable for the Henley Regatta in July, fortunately it is fairly quiet at the moment just one or two skiffs on the water, oh, and a dragon boat (see video). Tomorrow it is hopefully onto another pretty Thames town of Marlow.
