We have now passed the 500 mile mark with today’s cruise down the Thames. The flow has been no real problem but the wind has been another matter! Moored for lunch at Marlow and ended out being turned around by the wind to tie up, which wasn’t easy since the wind was blowing off the shore. Starting off again was a breeze however since all that was necessary was to release the bows and keep the stern tied on and she turned around all by herself (wind assisted). Similarly when we arrived at Cookham to moor up for the night, the wind was again blowing from the shore so every time I tried to approach I was blown back out into the river. Decided to turn around to moor and even that was a little hairy since I got half way around and the wind then began to blow me down the river broadside towards a moored fibreglass cruiser, just managed to get some forward momentum in time without hitting it but then was a real struggle trying to pull the boat in to tie up. Eventually successful and feel I have fully earned my glass of red wine!

Actually got a bit further today than originally planned but the intention is that if the weather tomorrow is as forecast (rubbish) then we wont travel quite so far. Possibly get to Windsor or Eton for tomorrow night.
