We are still remaining in Newbury and I would have to say that I’m getting to know the town quite well, better than I would have hoped even! I am slightly optimistic  that we may be able to make a move on either Sunday or Monday provided that the rain holds off. The forecast is pretty good, there are now just 2 ‘red’ boards on the section of the Thames we need to travel on and I’m hoping that the Kennet will abate over the weekend in the County Lock area, which is where the greatest problem lies at the moment. The trouble lies in the fact that the Kennet narrows through Reading and as it passes The Oracle it has one or two twists to negotiate, OK when coming upstream but a bit worrying when going downstream.  Two other boats moored with us at Newbury are also talking of moving off on Monday, may use them as a test and if they find it OK will be right behind them, if they run into problems then it’ll be time to moor up again. All we can do is see what the weather holds for the next few days.
