Reading Gaol Loop

Lat/Long N51.45559 W 000.96443

Map Reference SU 72049 73471
Distance 6.1 miles
Total 351 Locks 8 Tunnels
Running total mileage 487.4 miles

All still sort of going to plan as we have now reached the Reading Gaol loop mooring for the night. The river flow is now quite manageable and coming through the centre of The Oracle in the middle of Reading was relatively straightforward. The only place that sort of caught me out was just below Burghfield road bridge where a large sand bar has formed onto which we almost ran aground being propelled by the current. Technically we are now off the Kennet and Avon canal and now under the jurisdiction of the Environment Agancy, which means that tomorrow we will have to buy a licence at the first Thames lock we get to. Weather forecast seems to be deteriorating a bit in that tomorrow the forecast is for rain and Friday we are due for wind, which will all make the transit through the Thames that bit more exciting!
