Welford Junction

Here I am Rune
Distance 7.3 miles
Total 1501 Locks 74 Tunnels
Running total mileage 2138.9miles

Following on from the early morning showers, once the weather dried up we then pushed on to the moorings at the canal end of the Welford Arm. Average sort of Autumn day although a bit windy only a problem when passing moored boats and trying to slow down since the wind then pushes the boat sideways. The only point of significance this morning was the passage through Husbands Bosworth tunnel which is a two way working tunnel so you can (and we did) meet boats coming the other way. The boat we met was a hire boat and he seemed to be having difficulty in keeping a straight course in the tunnel (I do sympathise) but the problem was that his tunnel light wasn’t very well positioned so that whenever he pointed his boat in my direction I was getting dazzled by his light. Eventually managed to pass without too much difficulty although as we passed one of the crew at the back of the boat shone his torch on me. This is never a good idea since, in the darkness of a tunnel you try to cultivate your night vision, which is instantly destroyed when someone shines a light in your face!

We decided to moor up at Welford Junction since I couldn’t be bothered to press on into the wind, particularly as the forecast for tomorrow is less wind, more sun and warmer.
