Hilmorton

Here I am Rune
Distance 6.4 miles
Total 1514 Locks 76 Tunnels
Running total mileage 2165.1miles

A gentle trip up the North Oxford canal today to a point just beyond Hilmorton Wharf where we have finally taken on a proper quantity of fuel. At the last fuel point I only took on 20 litres just to see me through but here at Hilmorton Wharf they were only charging 60p for domestic and £1.11 for propulsion so it was a case of ‘top her up’!(127 litres) As we will undoubtedly be around this area for a little while I can see us making several more visits to this refuelling stop.

No real dramas today in fact a very scenic piece of canal which has brought us back to within a couple of miles of Crick (by road) although a long way by canal. The weather has started to get colder and we are now lighting the fire every night so will need to get some more coal in, fortunately our refuelling stop also does our preferred line in coal, Stoveglow, but is currently out of stock, more arriving on Thursday so we’ll stop off again on our way back.

Haven’t decided how far we are going up the North Oxford but I would expect to be in the area of Rugby for the weekend (we are already ‘in the area of Rugby’ as one of the bridges we’ve passed under has the history of the game of Rugby as a mural on the wall).
