Tarporley

Here I am Rune
Distance  9.1 miles
Total 2985 Locks  154 Tunnels
Running total mileage 4361.1 miles

Today’s was more like a spring cruise, bright sunshine (on and off) although it was still a bit chilly when the sun went in. I suppose that you could say that we have now officially started on our annual cruise since we are heading up the Llangollen canal and by the time that we reach the first lock subject of winter stoppage repair, it should be open again. I’m not sure whether we will get right up to Llangollen itself since we have a bit of time limitation since we need to be back to Fazeley by the middle of next month for some stuff that we want to do, but we will see how we get on.

The only event of any significance on today’s trip was the falling in at on  of the locks of the crew of another boat. She was crossing the top lock gate and, whilst looking back over her shoulder, missed her footing on the gate walkway. Fortunately the lock was pretty much full since she fell in alongside the open paddle, a far more serious situation had the lock been empty and water pouring through the paddle at speed could have sucked her in. At the end of the day the only harm done was to her dignity and her partner said he’d get some ‘mileage’ out of it for a few weeks.
