Dudley (Black Country Museum)

Here I am Rune

Distance 8.3 miles

Total 4596 Locks  290 Tunnels

Running total mileage 6,868.6 miles

We took the Black Country Museum option, which was just as well since if we’d gone back to the basin, given that it was 4.30pm when we got here, it would have been well dark going back to Hawne, which is about 3 hours from here.

It was a reasonable day’s work, 8 miles or so, 21 locks and a tunnel, no wonder we’re feeling a bit tired now. Although we took a bit more exercise walking to the Tesco’s about a mile away to get the weekend shop as by the time we get to the basin tomorrow it will be afternoon before we’d get the chance to get the shopping in.

Just as a comment on the CRT facilities here at the Black Country Museum Mooring, the recurrent theme seems to be that almost nothing works! There are two toilets here, one is marked up as out of action, the other constantly leaks due to a Heath-Robinson ‘repair’ to the cistern. There are two showers, neither of which deliver anything other than cold water, the pump-out is marked up as out of action, fortunately the Elsan was working!
